8 Amazing Green Beauty Products Celebrate Earth Day by treating yourself to some planet-friendly beauty swag!

Helping the planet isn't the only reason to load up on eco-friendly products: Research also suggests that options with scary chemicals like phthalates may affect your fertility. And since we're talking about things you put directly on to your skin, lips, and hair on a daily basis, wouldn't you rather play it safe?
You can address some beauty issues with DIY remedies (just check out these creative ways to use lemon juice and baking soda). For others, eco-expert Danny Seo recommends using common sense: "If it's bright pink with plastic exfoliating beads and smells like a cocktail, then it's likely loaded with artificial dyes and fragrances," he says. (Also: Those beads don't biodegrade, which is why beauty products that contain them are being banned in some places.)
Choosing items that bear the USDA-certified organic seal is the best way to know you're buying something eco-friendly, but the USDA doesn't distinguish between food ingredients and beauty ingredients—so products that contain inedible items aren't eligible even if they're chemical-free and made from natural ingredients.
